Online Multiplayer games will have nerfs. If there are two truths about them, many people will get annoyed by the nerfs.

Amazon’s MMO New World is an example. While the game is still in its infancy, it has a large player base, and there are a few issues need to be addressed. One of these wrinkles was how New World’s XP earned and to what degree.

It was too easy to reach the highest level. You don’t want players to be rushing through your MMO, so adjustments are necessary. Some players find New World’s progress to be too slow.

A thread was started on the Subreddit of the MMO. It was a discussion about the unfair XP progression. This thread title and the accompanying image show quite the picture.

“XP nerf killed this game’s progress for me. Level 118 engineers made over 160 wyrdwood poles but only reached level 140. This is a major slap in our faces and must be addressed.

Most of the replies to this thread agree with the original OP. They point out how unfair it is for early adopters to be able to rush to level 200 so quickly, while it now feels like a tedious, sometimes fruitless grind even for an MMO.

Also, there are complaints about the inefficiency of low-level crafting for both progression and the game itself.

Amazon will decide how to approach future progress updates in the future. However, any action must be swift as nothing can kill an active player base as quickly as a tedious, all-consuming grind.
