PlayStation 5 Update: Feature Fans Wanted Since Launch

Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that a feature requested by PlayStation 5 users will be included in an upcoming update.

The impressive update for PS5/PS4 was released last week. It includes a host of accessibility features, chat options and overall quality-of-life enhancements. Although briefly managed to shut down PlayStation Plus and allow online access to many games, it’s now all back up.

Sony has already revealed a new feature for PS5 gamers who want to play their games on the highest quality screens.

The PlayStation Blog confirmed that a 2022 system update will bring Variable Refresh Rates (VRR) to the PS5. VRR works only on TVs that have HDMI 2.1 functionality. It syncs the TV’s refresh rate directly to the console, making games appear noticeably smoother.

Sony also stated that the Variable Refresh Rat (VRR), is a feature they plan to release for PS5 within the next few months. This improves the visual performance of PS5 games by minimising or eliminating visual artifacts such as screen tearing and frame pacing issues. Many PS5 titles have smoother gameplay because scenes render faster, graphics are crisper, and input lat is lower. You can optimize PS5 games for VRR by installing a game patch. Future games might include VRR support at launch.

This won’t be exciting for everyone, especially for those who have TVs that don’t support VRR. For those who are obsessed with creating the best possible experience and picture, VRR will be a welcome addition to PS5 games.
