No Man’s Sky Leviathan Expedition bug Shows No Reward to Players

No Man’s Sky Expedition 7: Leviathan offers a reward to some players for a strenuous journey through the stars…with a bug. The event’s largest prize, the space whale frigate, is not showing up. I am one of the affected players. This is the person who wrote this article. Click here.

Let’s start with the good news: Hello Games, a developer, already seems to be aware of the problem. The team also came up with a solution. Only you can play Steam, and only if you choose to join the Experimental Branch. No Man’s Sky should fix the Expedition reward bug as soon as possible — for both PC and console players alike.

Experimental Branches is a term that developers use to describe an opt-in special version of their games. This is when creators are reasonably confident that the patch will not cause more problems, but they need to be able to test it and report any bugs. This is beta open to anyone who wants to update a game that’s already out.

No Man’s Sky possesses one such branch. It’s unlikely that you would have known about it if you didn’t visit the Steam discussion page for the game. Hello, Games has posted this promise in the notes. Anybody who has not received their Expedition rewards due to having zero Milestones completed — despite clearly having completed all missions — can install the update for at most 24 hours. Assuming that Steam is enabled.

This is just a note to say that A) Expedition 7 was a success, and B) it seems the bug is common enough that people can be affected by it. C) People who reach the end of Leviathan might be concerned if they experience the same glitch. This Expedition is quite hard. No Man’s Sky doesn’t have a reputation for being a difficult place. The Leviathan update automatically puts you in Survival Mode. You also get a roguelike mode, meaning that you have to restart your entire save every time you die. It’s quite frightening to get to the end and not receive any rewards.

This is why I am here with this PSA. You may have noticed that your “Expedition #7 Leviathan” reward page states zero phases completed, but you don’t know why. The game believes that the optional objectives are mandatory.

But there’s a deeper problem. nobody has ever completed the optional Expedition objectives. These are community goals. These goals can only be achieved if No Man’s Sky players around the globe complete optional objectives by turning special items into Polo, a story NPC featured in Expedition 7. While I wait for my space-whale frigate to become available, I could go back to grind Somnal Dust in an effort to help the No Man’s Sky player base unlock items that way…
