Surprise! After the teaser about the Among Us mode earlier in the year, PUBG Mobile will be welcoming a mode next week inspired by Netflix’s latest mega-hit series, Squid Game, the Korean thriller. This includes the deadly game of Red Light, and Green Light featured in its premiere episode.

Although technically a battle royale mode, the original Red Light, Green Light game, which is the basis of this addition, was a popular playground game played by children all over the globe. The new Netflix series adds guns to the mix, as well as a large cash prize. The grim world of Squid Game is a dark place. Suppose you are caught moving when the animatronic faces you; you will be removed from the game and this mortal coil. It sounds perfect in Mobile mode, and developers will be kicking themselves for not thinking of it sooner.

The source material shows that the entire show’s 400+ prisoners are dropped in what is effectively a death prison. This is an effective way to weed out many of its participants. Sabotage is as deadly as the game itself. It’s a way to defeat the clock, as well as the sophisticated long-range motion sensors or machine guns. Although it is not known if players can influence another player’s survival chances in the Mobile mode of the game, it’s possible to imagine a million different ways that it could be used, especially if the new carry feature is included.

We don’t know much about the new game other than wild speculation. The game’s Twitter account shared the above image. It’s not clear how many people can participate in each match, what prize is being offered, how large the map will be or if there will be any time limits.

It doesn’t seem like the PUBGMobile Squid Game partnership agreement. The lack of a logo and the uninspired name suggests that Netflix didn’t know PUBGMobile was going to release something so quickly after the show’s success a few months ago. The timing of this sudden release is another thing that is strange. It looks late for Halloween, judging by the image. We’re not too late to do that. However, it seems that Tencent doesn’t expect this one will have legs now that the Game buzz is over.

While it will draw players in for a few rounds of the game, there are no real rewards for repeat wins. Players should expect to return to their previous mode as soon as they win. It’s still worth taking a chance if you are playing during the holidays. You never know, they might bring it back with Runic Power Skills for an even more chaotic minigame.
