Update: Sony Denies an Increasing PS4 Production due to PS5 Shortage

S consoles, as the semiconductor shortage continues. Although initial reports claimed that Sony was making more PlayStation 4 consoles to compensate for the PS5 deficiencies, the company denies this.

Bloomberg stated that Sony’s new strategy would see an increase of around 1,000,000 PS4 units by 2022 to “fill the supply gap and keep gamers inside the PlayStation ecosystem.” This is despite previous plans to “discontinue assembly by the end of 2021.”

Sony stated to NLab that the production of PS4 consoles was planned for 2022. It’s not clear if the original report was accurate, but those looking for a PS4 console this year will be able to find one, unlike those searching for an Xbox One.
