Knights of the Old Republic II to Switch With Restored Content As DLC
There are way too many Star Wars holidays. There is May 4th, which I am not totally on board with, but I will grudgingly agree to. That day also has lots of Star Wars news. These Star Wars people managed to get a Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim in May. It also has a lot of announcements like today’s Jedi Survivor reveal. If the announcements that we receive are as fascinating as this one, I don’t think I can complain.
Today, Nintendo announced via Twitter that the beloved Knights of the Old Republic II will soon be available on Switch. This is a neat trailer, but not particularly groundbreaking. The trailer’s final stinger is a brief teaser about Restored Content, which flashes suddenly on the screen.
Lucasfilm gave Knights of the Old Republic II to Obsidian, rather than BioWare which had developed the original title. Obsidian had a little over a year to make a huge RPG, and much of it was left unfinished. It wasn’t cut, but it was left unfinished and inaccessible within the game. Fans, with lots of encouragement from Obsidian, have completed and re-enabled this content over the years in what is now known as the The Sith Lords Content Mod for PC owners.
This content is being added to the Switch version of the game for the first time ever.
It is possible that Asypr and Lucasfilm decided recently that this was feasible. However, it appears that the restored content will be available as DLC. Many questions remain: Is this the same work as fans? Is it possible that modders were involved? Do they get paid? Obsidian is involved?
Although there are many questions, the game is still a thrilling prospect for those who love the Star Wars games. Knights of the Old Republic II will be coming to Switch on June 8.
