Atlus yesterday announced Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden would be coming to Windows and Xbox One during Microsoft’s Not E3 show. Although the presentation only spoke of Microsoft stores and systems, it turned out that all three of these games will be coming to PlayStation 5 as well as Steam.

Atlus confirmed this in a press release (thanks, GamesRadar+). It states that all three JRPGs will come out on PlayStation. This seemed strange to me yesterday, considering that this series started 25 years ago. This is something that we frequently encounter when console-specific games are revealed. PlayStation doesn’t mention Microsoft, Microsoft doesn’t mention PlayStation, and we often find information about the competing consoles made by the third-party company that is making the game. Even Atlus’ social media didn’t mention Steam or PlayStation 5 after the show. There was an opportunity to see if these ports would not be coming to PlayStation.

This could indicate that Atlus and Microsoft had reached a deal to allow the company to keep this information longer than usual to cultivate a stronger association between this announcement and Xbox/Windows as an entity. Atlus’ social media banner currently only mentions Windows and Xbox as of the writing.

PlayStation 5 users can rest assured that the final version of each JRPG is coming to PlayStation 5. Persona5 Royal has always been available on PS5 via backward compatibility. However, the native version will now be available on the system. These are coming to Switch, but the real question is:

These games are great, but I am most excited to see Persona3 Portable leap from PSP to HD consoles/PC. This game will require the most work in the port. And I hope modders will get it and make romances accessible to all regardless of what gender they are playing.
