Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.2 Hit by DDoS Attacks

The release of *Final Fantasy 14* Patch 7.2, Seekers of Eternity, has been marred by a series of DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks on the game’s servers. These attacks began shortly after the servers came back online following maintenance on March 25 and have primarily affected North American and European data centers, including Aether and Chaos.

Patch 7.2 is a significant update in the Dawntrail expansion, bringing new main story quests, the next tier of the Arcadion raid series, and key Job updates. Notably, the Black Mage and Pictomancer Jobs received the most attention, while other classes like Paladin, Machinist, and Warrior had slight adjustments to their abilities.

The DDoS attacks began just before 7:00 AM Eastern on March 25, causing intermittent lag and disconnections for players. A DDoS attack works by flooding a server with excessive traffic, making it unable to handle normal requests, thus disrupting gameplay. While Square Enix has acknowledged the issue, there has been no official timeline for when the problem will be fully resolved.

Similar attacks have affected other MMORPGs, such as *World of Warcraft’s* Classic Hardcore servers in March. At the time of writing, Square Enix has not provided further updates on how they plan to address the DDoS attacks, and players may continue to experience disruptions until a solution is found.
