Obsidian Announces Turn-Based Mode for *Pillars of Eternity* in 2025

Obsidian Entertainment has announced that *Pillars of Eternity*, the beloved RPG from 2015, will be getting a turn-based combat mode in 2025. This exciting update comes as a surprise to fans, especially considering the game’s age, but it’s a welcome addition for those looking for a new way to experience the classic title.

Originally launched in 2015, *Pillars of Eternity* was praised for its story, worldbuilding, and atmosphere, earning an average score of 85 on OpenCritic. Despite the success of the first game, the series never saw a direct sequel after the underwhelming sales of *Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire*. However, the announcement of a turn-based mode for the original game is sure to please long-time fans.

The new combat mode is expected to be similar to the turn-based system introduced in *Deadfire*, which was added some months after its release. Alongside this announcement, Obsidian also released Patch 1.3.8.0.87535, which addresses some minor bugs.

This isn’t the first time *Pillars of Eternity* has received an update after all these years. Last year, the game saw a surprise update that fixed some visual and navigation bugs. With the success of *Avowed*, another RPG set in the *Pillars* universe, there’s hope that *Deadfire* could also receive new updates in the future. However, for now, the focus is on *The Outer Worlds 2* and the ongoing updates for *Avowed*.
