Final Fantasy 14 Players Concerned Over Patch 7.2 Security Fix
*Final Fantasy 14* Patch 7.2, released on March 25, was intended to address a security flaw that allowed mods like PlayerScope to track player characters without consent. However, players and programmers have already discovered that Square Enix’s fix has been bypassed.
The update, which introduced the Cruiserweight tier of the Arcadion raid series and continued the *Dawntrail* storyline, also aimed to protect player account IDs by adding a layer of network obfuscation. Despite these efforts, programmer and player NotNite revealed in a *PC Gamer* interview that the obfuscation was cracked using an algorithm.
After testing with friends, NotNite confirmed that the security measure was easily defeated, and mods like PlayerScope, which track characters by accessing client-side information, could soon be updated to bypass the fix.
NotNite criticized Square Enix for not taking further steps to prevent sensitive data from reaching game clients and suggested that the company’s limited resources may have contributed to the ineffectiveness of the fix. While Square Enix acknowledged the issue in January and reiterated its stance against third-party mods, the continued concerns from players highlight ongoing security challenges for *Final Fantasy 14*.
