Black Mirror Season 7 Launches Dark Tamagotchi-Inspired Mobile Game
Netflix’s *Black Mirror* has returned with a new twist—this time, blending its signature dystopian storytelling with an interactive mobile game. Season 7, which premiered on April 10, includes an episode titled **“Plaything,”** featuring Peter Capaldi as a man obsessed with a mysterious retro-style video game tied to a cold case.
Inspired by 90s digital pets like Tamagotchi, the episode now has a companion mobile game called **Thronglets**, developed by *Night School Studio*. The game lets players manage and care for virtual creatures in a village-style environment. But in true *Black Mirror* fashion, the pets are sentient—and things take a dark turn.
In one example shared by Netflix, players may find their Thronglets opting to chop down trees with bones instead of axes, raising moral dilemmas that challenge players’ decisions throughout the game.
*Thronglets* ties into Netflix’s broader plan to release more interactive and narrative-driven games based on original shows. Season 7 of *Black Mirror* features six new episodes, including a sequel to the fan-favorite *USS Callister*, with Cristin Milioti reprising her role.
