Overwatch 2 Reveals Scrapped Gundam Collab Skins

Blizzard has revealed unused concept art for Overwatch 2’s *Gundam Wing* crossover, offering fans a glimpse at what might have been. While the official collab features Mercy as Wing Gundam Zero, Ramattra as Epyon, Reaper as Deathscythe, and Soldier: 76 as Tallgeese, several alternate skin ideas were cut during development.

In interviews with *Comicbook* and *GameSpot*, Overwatch 2’s Aimee Dennett and Dion Rogers shared that the original plans included Ana as Tallgeese, Mauga and Zarya as Heavyarms, and a unique take on D.Va as one of Gundam Wing’s human pilots. While these designs impressed on paper—especially Heavyarms Mauga’s weapon concept—they ultimately didn’t make the final cut.

Ana was initially chosen for Tallgeese due to her similar weaponry, but the team felt Soldier: 76 fit better visually. “We’ve been dying to give Ana a collaboration skin,” Dennett said, “but when you looked at Soldier versus Ana side by side, it was really clear.”

Interestingly, this is the first Overwatch 2 collab to feature only heroes who have previously appeared in other crossover skins. Ramattra was selected despite challenges with transforming Omnic characters, due to both technical ambition and his popularity among fans.

One major transformation came with Mercy, whose Wing Gundam Zero skin completely replaces her face and body. “As long as we keep the wings there, players will recognize the hero,” Rogers explained.

The event runs from April 29 to May 12, with individual skins priced at 2800 Overwatch Coins and the full bundle at 5900. While these alternate concepts didn’t make it this time, Blizzard hasn’t ruled out more Gundam skins in the future.
