Nintendo Switch Update 20.0.0 Adds GameShare and Virtual Game Cards

Nintendo has released system update 20.0.0 for the Switch, introducing new features like GameShare and Virtual Game Cards, along with tools to prepare users for the upcoming Switch 2.

The new Virtual Game Card feature allows users to transfer digital games between two Switch systems linked to the same Nintendo Account. Players can also lend games to others in their family group for up to two weeks. This function will also be supported on the Switch 2.

GameShare, another major addition, enables users to play select games on nearby consoles without needing multiple copies. While only hostable on a Switch 2, up to three other Switch or Switch 2 consoles can join a session—similar to DS Download Play from the past.

The update also introduces Switch 2 system transfer options. Users can either use local wireless communication or upload their data to Nintendo’s servers before trading in their original console. However, both methods will reset the original Switch to factory settings.

Additional changes include updated user icon appearances, enhanced save data transfer options, new online license settings, and interface tweaks to the HOME Menu.

This update sets the stage for smoother upgrades to Switch 2 and more flexible sharing options for digital content.
