10 essential Fallout 3 mods

Switch your copy of Fallout 3 into a mutant masterpiece with these 10 essential mods. Giant mutant geckos, plasma guns that encircle your enemies, thunderstorms and bullet time are just a few of the many additions made via this assortment of high upgrades. Used in combination, they can bring fresh life into the Capital Wasteland and turn your copy of Fallout 3 into a desperate struggle for survival.

1. Fallout 3 Mod Manager

Wait! Step away from the mods! If you install them now you’ll have to spend hours rummaging through the guts of Fallout 3’s file structure, altering .ini files and hitting it with a stick to make it work. For the sake of your sanity, so make sure you have the Fallout 3 mod manager set up . It gives you total control of which mods are busy and does all of the fiddly file altering stuff for you. The load order of the mods you have installed is important, too, so it is a great idea to check each mod’s readme file for details of the place they contain on the listing.

2. Fallout 3 Wanderer’s Edition

This massive overhaul turns Fallout 3 to a survivalist nightmare. Enemies are harder, weapons are more effective, ammo is scarce and you’ll have to eat, drink and sleep to stay alive. Wanderer’s Edition changes the game a whole lot, but virtually all of the new features can be tweaked or turned off completely, so you can simply discard updates you do not like. This mod is particularly powerful when used in combination with Mart’s superb Mutant Mod. This mod won’t function without Fallout Script Extender , so make sure you grab that first.

3. The Mutant Mod of mart

Do you miss the gecko items that are adorable from Fallout 2? Do you miss Shooting them into their stupid lizard faces? If the solution is yes then that is the mod for you. It provides dozens of new species of creature to the Capital Wasteland and extensively revamp their own AI. Many monsters will now search each other and brighter enemies will loot corpses for better weapons. Monster size has also been randomised, so you might sometimes end up up against a twenty-foot lengthy scorpion, or a house-sized Super Mutant. In a previous build, the mod’s founder, Martigen, found that the drifting traders kept getting killed by the aggressive new wildlife, and has given them a fearsome retinue of power-armoured mercenaries as additional protection.

4. Fallout 3 Reanimated

Once you notice the cartoon flaws in Fallout 3, then you can’t unnotice them. 7. FOOK Two

The very first Fallout Overhaul Kit was a ramshackle arrangement of different updates, moulded into one solid gold mod. FOOK 2 Improves on every aspect of the first overhaul, adding over 150 new weapons, 30 new items of clothing and 80 bizarre shiny new textures for existing things. Factions and NPCs will now use a much larger range of weaponry and also the new garments adds more variety to the wasteland. FOOK 2 handles to enhance the core Fallout 3 experience and bring more variety and colour to the wasteland, without altering the game you enjoy. If you would like to combine the massive thing update of FOOK2 using the total overhaul of Wanderer’s variant, then make sure you catch this patch to make them play well together.

8. Fellout

Sometimes the smallest changes can have a huge effect. Fellout Eliminates the mucky green smog that hangs across the Capital Wasteland, substituting it with bright, warm sunlight. The calamitous thunderstorms added by Enriched Weather Can make even a casual walk sound like the end of the world. Snow Storms and radioactive rain have also been added together with a lively Weather system that produces the slow transition between different kinds of Weather feel realistic. You get a stealth bonus from the new Thunderstorms, your enemies will be so jaded by the lightning They’ll never see you coming.
