BioWare’s original version is being remadeStar Wars – Knights of the Old RepublicAspyr Media has been rumored for years to be working on the series. While Aspyr has not yet tackled a project of the magnitude of a complete remake, the studio was behind many of the series’ most recent ports. Fans will hope that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, could set new standards for lightsaber combat in Star Wars games. If the remake is to match the lightsaber battles of previous Star Wars games, there are many interesting paths Aspyr could take.

BioWare would eventually move to real-time fighting with the Mass Effect trilogy. However, Knights of the Old Republic’s combat systems were more like tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons than BioWare’s earlier efforts. KOTOR enemies were drawn to an enemy only if they were within a specified range, instead of using realistic lines.

The game also used core attributes found in TTRPGs, such as strength, dexterity, and constitution. These attributes can be used to modify the chance of success in Dungeons and Dragons by giving a plus or negative effect on certain d20 rolls. For example, an intimidation check uses charisma. If a player has the charisma of -1, they are slightly less likely to succeed after that penalty is applied.

Knights of the Old Republic has a similar system but with a few more details. Dungeons & Dragons allow players to attack targets. The game rolls a dice roll to determine if they hit while also accounting for their stats. The same applies to conversation skills – hidden dice rolls are made and modified according to the player’s base stats. As in TTRPGs, the d20 adds an element of randomness to success, while the player character’s modifiers increase the likelihood of certain tactics being more successful.
