Starflight

Starflight, a space exploration, combat and trading video game, was created by Binary Systems. It was published by Electronic Arts, in 1986. The player is placed in a Starport space station orbiting the planet Arth. Here they trade minerals, Endurium (fuel), artifacts, and recruit and train crew members.

They also upgrade the ship’s parts. To fill the six positions of navigator, science officer and engineer, as well as communications officer, doctor and captain, the player must hire a crew of five species. The relevant skill determines a crewman’s proficiency: A science officer with high science skills can detect aliens from greater distances and determine the planet’s properties more accurately. Training is a way to improve your skills, but it must also be bought.
