The ‘Metal Gear Solid 2’and ‘Snake Eater’have been pulled from the sale
Metal Gear Solid and its sequel Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater have been removed from digital shopfronts. They will not be back until further notice.
Konami confirmed the news with a statement. It stated that the classic games were being pulled because of “licenses for selected historical archive footage used within-game”. This means that these games contain footage that the publisher doesn’t have the right to use. This is… not good. Konami plans to renew the license, if possible.
The company stated in a statement that it was grateful for the support of the METAL GEAR series.
“We are currently renewing licenses for selected historical archive footage used within-game. Therefore, we have temporarily decided to suspend the sale of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, as well as all products that include these games, from digital storefronts worldwide starting November 8th 2021.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we continue to make these products available again for purchase. We appreciate your support for the Metal Gear series.
Below is a complete list of affected stores and games. It’s possible that they will be returned within a short time. However, it remains to be determined if the footage from the archives will be replaced or if they will be exactly as they were.
