Need for Speed Rivals, is a racing video game with gameplay that is similar to older Need for Speed games such as Criterion’s Need for Speed: Most Wanted or Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.
Each side of the law has its own style of play. Rivals include eleven gadgets that can be upgraded, including EMPs and shockwaves. It also allows you to summon roadblocks. Redview County is a fictional place where the game takes place.
The Open World Environment is similar to Most Wanted. It features several jumps and speed traps as well as unlockable cars as well as shortcuts not displayed on the map. Rivals have a system of career advancement for Cops and Racers.
The progression is done by Speedlists and Assignments. These are a set of goals that involve driving dangerously, performing maneuvers, and achieving high race rankings. After completing each set, players unlock new content and are presented with a choice of other objectives.
The Autolog system, a competition-between-friends system, developed by Criterion for Hot Pursuit, records the player’s completion time for each event, Speedlist, or Assignment.
