Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 is an action, fighting video game. Full Burst features 81 playable characters and seven supporting ones (with some ability-enhancing powers when their health drops low and usable by specific characters during battle) in addition to Awakening Mode which gives each character enhanced abilities when their health falls to low, and can even be utilized against certain other characters during fights.
Restructure of item system has allowed players to choose healing and offensive items as desired, with storage capabilities for later use in combat. As in past games, two characters can assist the main protagonist during fights as needed. Assisting characters can assist the main one with thirteen combos in team attack mode, using support characters for charging and attacking.
Each assistant character has health bars which decrease when hit; when these health bars run dry they become unusable until replenished again. Players using one support character receive 10 health bars; when using two support characters each have 5 health bars.
