PS Plus Vs Xbox Game Pass Price Comparison Guide

Surprised by no one, Sony has unveiled the new and improved PlayStation Plus subscription program. People have complained about the service for years. It was not up to par with Xbox Game Pass, which, let’s be honest, is the best game subscription service. However, the new additions to PlayStation Plus are intended to make it a stronger competitor (albeit not officially).

The amount you pay will affect the perks that you get. There are three tiers to this service, each with different content. What do you get for each price? How does it compare with Game Pass? Let’s look at it.

The Essential tier is the most affordable. You’ll still get all of your regular PS Plus subscriptions, but you won’t be able to add any new features. You’ll continue to get online play, cloud storage and two free monthly games for PS6.99/$9.99 per month or PS49.99/$59.99 per year.

The Extra tier offers more – in addition to all the perks of Essential, you will also have access to about 400 PS4 or PS5 games. This basically combines PS Plus and PS Now. The cost of this will be PS10.99/$14.99 per month or PS83.99/$99.99 per year. Finally, this is comparable to Game Pass which, even at its regular pricing for PC and consoles, provides a 100-game catalog on demand and costs PS7.99/$9.99 per month. Game Pass offers subscribers titles on the day they are released at no additional cost. This is something, not even the most expensive PS Plus tier offers.

Let’s not forget about Premium. Premium subscribers get access to more than 340 classic PlayStation titles, cloud streaming, and limited-time game trials for PS13.49/$17.99 per month. The most expensive version of the Xbox competitor, Game Pass Ultimate costs PS10.99/$14.99 per month. It includes all the regular Game Pass perks and cloud gaming. Also, it includes Xbox Live Gold (priced separately at PS6.99/$9.99 per month).

You’ll notice that all PS Plus subscriptions are discounted if purchased for a full year. Game Pass does not offer this option. A year of regular Game Pass costs PS95.88/$119.88 and a Year of Game Pass Ultimate costs PS131.88/$179.88. A full year of PS Plus Premium costs just a little more than a regular Game Pass year (though it is slightly cheaper in the US).

PS Plus Premium has 700 games in total, while Game Pass has over 100, according to the Game Pass website. This is both for Ultimate and regular Game Pass. Cloud gaming is available on the most expensive subscriptions, but PlayStation users do not get the same bonus perks as Xbox players like day-one game releases and DLC. PS Plus Premium costs about the same as a regular Game Pass subscription but is significantly less than Game Pass Ultimate.

These perks are up to you to decide if they’re worth it. But, this is how they compare to Xbox’s golden kid. The new and improved PS Plus service will begin rolling out in June.
