Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Release Date for Switch and PC

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak will be the first major, fully-paid expansion of the dinosaur-slaying sim. It’s likely to be the last major expansion before seeing a full-fledged sequel Monster Hunter World. One precedent that I am glad Capcom hasn’t broken is the staggered release dates between consoles and PC. Sunbreak is coming to personal computers and Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022 (unlike the base Monster Hunter Rise or previous MHW releases).

You will find that the original Monster Hunter Rise is a far better experience on PC. Although portability is a difficult trade, the game runs flawlessly on PC and looks amazing on your home computer. It doesn’t have cross-save and cross-play with the Nintendo counterpart. This means that I have been playing through the base campaign for a Monster Hunter game once more. Switch, and now PC. Capcom provides the same “boost” seen in MHW: mid-level weapons and armour that make it easy to blast through the early games. It’s not a great feature, but it is a nuisance.

More Sunbreaknews is also a motivator, as shown in the Monster Hunter stream today, along with the expansion’s release date. We were able to see new NPCs and locations and new monsters. Original creatures such as Garangolm and Lunagaron join Malzeno, the mascot villain, to form “Three Lords.” They look very similar to the Fated Four of Monster Hunter Generations. As of Sunbreak, the lightning-fueled wyvern Astalos will also be joining Monster Hunter Rise. Mammoth, an ice-armoured woolly mammoth missing from the generation quartet, is now gone. Between now and June 30, many more monsters will be revealed and hidden behind the curtains.

Monster Hunter Rise could really use some fresh content. After its March release, the game received a few new monsters. These weren’t add-ons but missing pieces to the game’s overall story. It felt oddly incomplete at launch, which was almost certainly due to the game’s development cycle being rushed into COVID-19. Cosmetic additions have been the focus of additional post-release content. There are many fun things to do in-game, including new costumes and gestures. It didn’t live up to the wild standards set by MHW, particularly that game’s expansion Iceborne. So I don’t know anyone who is still playing Monster Hunter Rise. I hope a new batch of content and PC parity can change this!

This Monster Hunter game is still. The Firebug grappling hook system, which is extremely fast and flies high, is amazing; Palamutes look cute. It can do a lot of things right. Sunbreak has a high chance of being a game that you will enjoy for many years — with both friends and strangers.
