Steam’s next major RPG for PlayStation5 exceeds two times longer in length than Game Of Thrones in entirety.
How would you define “long video game?” If asked this question in a room of people, the answers might vary widely depending on which kind of games each individual likes to play. Some consider 30 hours to be enough time, whereas for others 100+ is necessary in order to discover all its hidden depths.
Well if 100% completion of Cyberpunk 2077 took you time, or Persona 5 Royal took longer than anticipated, prepare yourself: the latest RPG from Larian Studios may take even longer! Baldur’s Gate III will release early access later this year and its development team has just confirmed that watching just its cinematics alone could take more than 170 hours! Good grief.
As reported by VG247, Larian Studios product manager Emily Gera took to the PlayStation Blog on Sunday (29 June) to demonstrate just how big Baldur’s Gate III is. To put things in context, all eight seasons of Game of Thrones take just over 70 hours each to watch; so this would allow two and a half viewing sessions in time it takes just to view Baldur’s Gate III cutscenes! Furthermore, Gera revealed there’s over three times as much cinematic dialogue present than in all three Lord of The Rings books combined! It truly boggled her imagination!
Also worth noting is the estimated runtime of just the cinematics alone; fans still have gameplay to experience as well and its total runtime may take even longer; at present we don’t know exactly how long that’ll be but certainly it should make for an exhilarating ride!
Baldur’s Gate III will launch for PS5 on 6 September; those purchasing its Deluxe Edition can jump ahead three days early on 3 September and enter early access via Steam starting 3 August.
