September is shaping up to be an action-packed month when it comes to gaming releases: Baldur’s Gate 3, The Crew: Motorfest, Lies of P, Mortal Kombat 1, Payday 3, Starfield… the list goes on and on… Today however we discuss Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty as its major expansion slated for release later in September.

At Summer Game Fest, when we had an opportunity to review Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty for ourselves, we stated that its release marked Cyberpunk’s journey back from its turbulent start, adding “Phantom Liberty appears poised as Cyberpunk 2077’s victory lap”.

Since then it’s become apparent that players of Cyberpunk 2077 can benefit from some of Phantom Liberty’s enhancements without purchasing its expansion, such as vehicular combat being added and new romance opportunities available via V. Additionally Phantom Liberty unlocks new story endings as well as new romance options for V and even brings back one of its best characters from its base game version: V the veteran hero V!

ScreenRant reports that Phantom Liberty will feature an appearance by musician Grimes (real name Claire Elise Boucher) as Lizzy Wizzy; her appearance can be found during the Violence side quest and she serves as one of her partners’ spy targets.

Lizzy Wizzy will no doubt play some part in Phantom Liberty and ScreenRant has speculated that she could possibly have connections to President Rosalind Myers through her celebrity status, meaning we might hear more Grimes songs on Cyberpunk 2077’s airwaves.

Grimes took to Twitter with her own post, simply writing, “I’m back in Night City; keeping things vague. Let’s explore Phantom Liberty on 26 September!”
