Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will soon be here, with release scheduled for October 20. I can hardly wait for gamers everywhere to have another go at traversing open world New York while swinging like Peter Parker again! I can hardly contain my excitement for what lies ahead!

Gamers everywhere–I should really mean people who own PS5–will feel it soon enough, because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will only be released exclusively for Sony’s new-gen console, following Insomniac Games’ practice of skipping an Xbox release for each Spidey release. While no one enjoys missing out, Xbox fans certainly took great pains back in 2017 to block Marvel’s Spider-Man from becoming an exclusive title on PS4, only for their efforts to fall on deaf ears and fail.

Gaming fans created a petition on Change.org in July 2017 with one aim in mind: to “stop Spider-Man being exclusive to PS4”. Their creator stated in their campaign description: “Spider-Man has never been exclusive to one console; even Sony Spider-Man movie-based games can be found for Xbox. This injustice should end.”

Although the petition has now closed (due to legal concerns), it garnered 965 signatures in total during its time being active. Unfortunately, like its ongoing counterpart regarding making Starfield exclusive for PlayStation, realistically this never had much chance of succeeding despite how many signed it initially.

However, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered finally reached PC last year allowing more people to experience it that way. Unfortunately it remains uncertain if Spider-Man 2 will also eventually come over, though Sony has released more exclusives there recently and so its presence doesn’t appear out of place.
