Some players are currently reflecting upon the difficult launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and feel people judged CD Projekt RED too harshly.

Cyberpunk 2077 must have had one of the toughest launches ever in gaming. Originally developed by CD Projekt RED and released through Steam early last month, many consumers complained of bugs, glitches and performance issues on Xbox and PlayStation platforms – even receiving admission into New York Museum Of Failures due to this disastrous release date.

Recently, several CD Projekt RED developers stated their belief that Cyberpunk was unfairly criticised at launch; some fans appear to agree. Reddit user RolandAssassin started a thread discussing this notion saying: “I agree with DEVs in that Cyberpunk was EXTREMELY overhated… the game had many issues for sure and even seems unfinished… But was it cool to hate Cyberpunk? Absolutely; that game was overcriticized far beyond limits!”

Though many were in agreement, many also pointed out the difficulties the game encountered upon launch; critics felt their criticisms were completely justified by players experiencing performance issues when using PS4. “Overall I agree. At launch however, PS4 games was in poor state causing frequent crashes for me until major update and getting next-gen console,” stated one commentator while another called out how poor their launch experience had been: “[It’s one]of my favourites games but launch was such an embarrassment”.

“[Halo 3] fell victim to its own hype; they over promised and under delivered. Was Halo 3 still good after all these patches?” wrote one user in response to one comment about its failure to live up to expectations. One such reader wrote in:

No matter where your opinions lie, Cyberpunk 2077 failed to deliver on launch day despite numerous promises by developers – this fact cannot justify personal attacks and threats being directed toward these developers for being part of Cyberpunk 2077 development team.

On the plus side, Cyberpunk 2077 remains on track towards redemption; receiving multiple quality-of-life updates as it approaches release. Furthermore, an exciting DLC expansion called Phantom Liberty promises to further develop story, characters and gameplay mechanics within Cyberpunk 2077.

Phantom Liberty will arrive exclusively for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC on 26 September.
