Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was widely recognized as one of gaming’s finest remakes.
Tonk Hawk is an iconic skateboarder; so, naturally, his name should feature prominently among video gaming titles!
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for PlayStation was first released in 1999, introducing fans of extreme sports genre and making players like me who had no background whatsoever with skateboarding feel confident when we managed to perform its signature maneuver: Tony Hawk’s famous 900 manoeuvre.
Tony Hawk’s video game series would later spawn several sequels and remakes, and we did receive one remaster on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012. Unfortunately, however, this remaster fell far short of its previous standards; but in 2020 we received Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 by Vicarious Visions published by Activision that included both original games with improved visuals, gameplay features and much more – perfecting our skateboarding experience once more!
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 earned wide critical acclaim across all platforms and even garnered 90 on Metacritic for their review – earning them their “Must Play” accolade! Furthermore, fans on Reddit expressed their love and shared it.
“Over all, what would you consider to be the greatest remakes we’ve gotten so far?” began RDDAMAN819 when opening discussion on this thread. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 quickly rose as one of TiredReader87’s favorites as she fondly remembered playing through all its seasons many times over, until ultimately ElMaridoDeNanner agreed that “THPS 1+2 probably wins for me”.
There were many more impressive remakes mentioned on Reddit as well, such as Resident Evil for Nintendo GameCube (my personal fave!), Shadow of Colossus on PS4, Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on Nintendo Switch and others.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+ 2 stands as an exceptional remaster of its source material, remaining as true to it as possible yet offering opportunities for improvement where relevant. We found its performance impressively satisfying overall in our review of it.
Activision currently does not plan to release any more remakes for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2; its availability spans PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms.
