Every fan knows this familiar refrain – excitement builds around an exciting game; pre-order is made; game arrives, is disappointingly average and fan wishes they hadn’t bothered pre-ordering the title in question.

Have you heard? A Red Dead Redemption remake or remaster seems imminent as reports surface of their imminence after months of leaks on Rockstar Games’ own website and other sources, along with signs from Rockstar that an announcement might soon follow.

Fans everywhere are delighted at the prospect of replaying such an iconic masterpiece, especially since you cannot easily play it on PlayStation 4 and 5. On Red Dead Redemption subreddit thousands have expressed interest in pre-ordering as quickly as they can; yet some voices of reason have spoken up and warned fans against going down that road immediately.

“Given Rockstar’s track record with remasters,” one user advised against preordering.

This statement refers to the disastrous launch of Grand Theft Auto trilogy Remaster, an extremely disappointing effort which completely wrecked GTA III, GTA San Andreas and GTA Vice City into broken mess. Refunds were issued, apologizes were offered but many players have still not forgotten; well at least not yet!

Be wary, however. Rockstar wasn’t directly responsible for remastering GTA trilogy – that honour went to Grove Street Games instead. I would find it shocking, however, if Red Dead Redemption remake were real that Rockstar wasn’t handling everything themselves but let’s remain skeptical nevertheless.

Another Reddit user expressed doubt that Rockstar wouldn’t just outsource this work after abandoning Red Dead Redemption 2 almost instantly after its release for GTA content and new title development.

Naturally, we need to wait and see the finalized trailer before drawing any definitive conclusions, but one general recommendation stands out: be very wary when pre-ordering games this time around.
