BALDUR’S GATE 3 LEVEL CAP: THE MAXIMUM LEVEL YOU CAN REACH IN THE FULL GAME
Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap can have a major effect on our playthroughs, though we have limited direct influence. When the cRPG first launches, our characters reach maximum level, which determines which spells they can learn with experience – ultimately altering how our party interacts and plays out its battle plan.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access launched with a lower maximum level cap to reflect that version only including one act from its full release plan. This made sense, given how limited Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access would be as an experience leveling game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 early access players were able to reach maximum level within 25 hours, reaching level 5 before finishing Act One of this massive RPG experience.
Larian Studios noted during an older Reddit AMA that they planned on targeting character levels of 10 in Baldur’s Gate 3 full edition.
Nick Pechenin, lead systems designer of Baldur’s Gate 3, revealed to Rock Paper Shotgun that its level cap hadn’t yet been finalised.
After much speculation and deliberation in late June 2023, when Baldur’s Gate 3 fully released for public consumption on August 14th of that year, our characters would reach maximum level 12 before reaching level cap (12). This issue was finally settled when an update from Baldur’s Gate Community revealed this limit through their community update system.
Though this third entry in the series faithfully recreates Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules, we still can’t reach level 20 in it.
As such, we may miss out on access to some of the more powerful spells offered in pen and paper games.
At level 12 however, your character should already have enough power and experience with various class mechanics to form an impactful and resilient individual.
The developer has not provided an indication as to whether future updates or DLC might increase this figure.
