Need for Speed: Most Wanted gets an incredible Unreal Engine 5 remake
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is one of EA Sports’s flagship titles and its fans are constantly on the hunt for more ways to enjoy this classic street racer.
One way fans of Need for Speed games are finding new ways to experience older titles is with fan remakes. EA did produce Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit as an official remake in 2020; yet EA may be missing an opportunity by neglecting Underground and Most Wanted games from their back catalogue.
Over recent months we’ve witnessed some fantastic fan remakes and remasters, mostly inspired by Underground 2, but now someone has recreated Most Wanted with Unreal Engine 5 using NostalgiaNexus’ YouTube channel and it looks incredible.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is being rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, Chaos Vehicle System and FMOD engine sounds according to its description in video form.
Though you can tell this is no AAA remake, its car model looks superb, its world looks attractive, and perhaps most importantly of all it seems to handle really well and sound amazing too! Additionally, note that EA lawyers will likely send threatening letters against indie developers who make use of its playable demo version.
Watching this gameplay footage makes me wish Electronic Arts would provide at the very least, remasters of other classic Need for Speed entries.
There does appear to be some hope. Back in July 2023, one of the voice actors that worked on Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) may have accidentally revealed that an official remake is in development; though we should take such speculation with caution until proven otherwise.
Need for Speed Unbound is now available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with both EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription services offering it too.
