We now have the official rating of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s quite tame. We didn’t expect Marvel to go all out with the violence, but given the characters in this sequel we were expecting a higher rating.

Venom and Kraven, the Hunter were two characters that raised the eyebrows about the possible fact that this game was more “mature” than its predecessor from 2018. The ESRB has rated this game T for Teen, as it did with the previous instalment.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was praised both by fans and critics. Yes, Spidey had been played before but never like this. The game was praised by critics and fans alike for its re-invigoration of Peter Parker’s character, as well as the universe he inhabits.

The fact that this game is rated T will be welcomed by parents who are concerned about their children’s safety. However, it was never meant to compete with Mortal Kombat 1, in terms of visceral violence. Marvel’s Spidey doesn’t have that kind of content. We’re still surprised by the rating, and some might even say that we are disappointed.

The explanation begins with: “This game is a fast-paced action-packed adventure in which the players take on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Miles Morales/Spider-Men to try and save New York City against a new danger.”

From a third person perspective, the players will fight crimes, jump around in buildings and have melee combats with their enemies. Characters mainly punch, kick and throw one another during fights. Central characters are able to use symbiote and electric attacks against enemies. Some enemies fire pistols or machine guns in combat. Gunshots can sometimes cause small blood splashes. The cutscenes show more violent/bloody scenes: A character is choked to Death, a body has been turned upside down and blood is seen on a piece of leaf. Characters can be seen exchanging unnamed drug packets for weapons in some missions. “The words ‘pr*ck,’ and a*s appear in the video game.”

Really shocking language. Shocking language, really.

You can rejoice, my darkhearted little readers. A Carnage horror sequel is on its way. You just know that it will be great. There is no deadline for when it will be launched, just that it will happen.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still getting a lot buzz, especially in regards to accessibility. It will please players to learn that can be slowed in order to make the combat experience easier and more manageable. As someone who is easily flustered by fight scenes, I am delighted. This is an option that you can use if this setting suits you.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to our consoles soon – its official release date is the 20th of October.
