No matter how much you loved watching the Super Mario Bros. Movie in the end, chances are that you’re a huge lover of the legendary plumber and the character that comes from Charles Martinet instantly reminds you of your youth.

According to Nintendo Everything, Martinet was able to discuss the changes in his speech at an earlier Q&A panel in Galaxycon Austin 2023, saying he’s not sure of what it is.

“I am, as you may have heard the announcement of the Mario Ambassador.” Martinet told fans at the show, and continued: “I don’t know what it is.”

He said: “I’m not retired as is, since I’m not certain exactly how to do it, however I’m an ambassador, and as we move to the future, I’ll be learning, and we’ll all discover about what that means and, for the moment I’ll continue to ambassading just as I always have been.”

Martinet concluded her talk about the job with the following statement: “I’m always an ambassador for Nintendo and Mario in all these occasions because I love every minute of it. I’m hoping you’re able to ensure that your passion for the game will continue to grow as mine has.”

Following the addition of a signature “thank-a thank you very much” the actor requested audience members to not inquire regarding the changes while reiterating: “I don’t know anything regarding the matter.”

In its announcement earlier this month regarding Martinet’s shift of character, Nintendo said of the actor: “With this transition, Martinet will take a step back from recording voice-overs for characters in the games we play, however he will remain active in the world and share the love of Mario as well as interacting with all of you!”

In addition, it said: “It has been an honor to work with Charles in bringing Mario into existence for numerous years. We are grateful and want to celebrate Mario.”
