PlayStation Plus now contains 2023’s most cursed game

Sony has found itself mired in trouble recently with disappointing titles being added to PlayStation Plus over time, yet decided to add 2023’s most cursed title as part of its catalog – further compounding Sony’s woes.

Sony revealed yesterday it would add two games to PS Plus Premium Service as trials, with Baldur’s Gate 3 available to play for two hours and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum having one-hour free trials respectively.

As both titles, one a Game of the Year contender and another simply being a game, are now accessible for a limited period to PlayStation Plus premium subscribers, this has come as both an unexpected surprise and cause of laughter with Gollum being less-than-successful when released back in May this year.

Adventure game featuring Gollum on his quest for Precious was widely criticised, garnering low scores on Steam with mostly negative ratings and prompting Daedalic Entertainment’s apology statement.

Unfortunately, soon after the game’s release, its development studio abruptly closed down to focus on publishing instead. Amidst such strong contenders for Game of the Year awards this year, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was unlikely to take home any hardware.

Lord of the Rings: Tales of the Shire is an upcoming adventure game which merges Stardew Valley with Middle-earth. Due to be released sometime between 2024-2027, let us hope there are no sightings of Gollum therein!
