Pokemon has long been one of the world’s favorite franchises, from animated TV series, movies and video games all the way through plushies and plush toys – each iteration leaving its mark.

Assumedly, Pokemon won’t disappear anytime soon – however if there are any doubts it might do, don’t fret my fellow Trainer! It is unlikely.

GAMINGbible’s Tom Ryan-Smith spoke to Takato Utsunomiya, COO of The Pokemon Company. During their conversation he noted his vision is for Pokemon to remain relevant over centuries by way of their Trading Card Game and other initiatives like Nintendo.

Utsunomiya described their structure as being very special: they must operate like any business to generate profit but it allows them to take a much broader perspective in all that they do – taking an eye toward keeping Pokemon alive for hundreds of years past our lifetimes as part of a long-term plan involving generations beyond us and their kids.”

Speaking to The Guardian, Takato Utsunomiya reiterated his wish that Pokemon lasts beyond one century with games remaining as “the core of its brand”. Furthermore, Utsunomiya noted how Pokedex descriptions may not always accurately reflected Pokemon in-game; however this has changed with recent games in the series and plans exist for this aspect to develop further moving forward.

“In the original games, there was quite an inaccuracy between what you read in Pokedex and what was seen on-screen,” Utsunomiya noted. “However, starting with Legends Arceus Scarlet Violet you begin seeing Bidoof creating dens and traveling in packs more realistically; additionally their settings become much more lifelike as there’s now more we can do when it comes to providing descriptions seen in Pokedex.”

So it stands: Pokemon will outlive our lives here on planet Earth! Long live Pokemon!
