Steam’s free game, featuring elements of both Pokemon and Zelda gameplay, is stunningly designed.
There’s an undeniable sense of Pokemon and Digimon coming together in this RPG with its cute monsters, with each creature possessing distinct features and feeling original; an impressive achievement when so many games rely heavily on Pokemon as their central theme.
Portal Fantasy features Porbles as its titular creatures and battle between them is possible; like other creature collection games however it takes on more of an RPG direction in this one.
Portal Fantasy’s Steam page suggests players will “step into Portal Fantasy, an adventure capturing RPG where players can create worlds for other to explore and capture creatures called Porbles for questing fun!” As per Steam page description of Portal Fantasy: players “will step into an RPG where world creation and creatures capture are key features; explore realms, capture Porbles, and complete thrilling quests as Hero.”
This trailer showcases an elegant blend of Pokemon-esque battles and animated cutscenes, which provide ample world building, building up the sense of adventure against an uncertain world.
“1000 years have passed since Ravenna fell, and her kingdom, Pyli Kingdom, seems prosperous again… But as an academy novice at Porble Academy your life suddenly takes an unexpected turn when arriving late into Valeria as Valeria becomes its capital city.” There seems to be an extensive backstory behind this game as its developers really push it out there with this effort – something for all fans!
Players will experience an “epic story”, strategic turn-based battles, multiplayer elements and the option of creating their own adventures using preset tile-based assets. There is great depth displayed even with characters known as Porbles who represent six elements with “over 50 skills and 60 passive abilities”.
Portal Fantasy should top your wishlist if Zelda visuals and Pokemon gameplay are what float your boat.
