North American Final Fantasy XIV Server Maintenance to take Place Prior to Patch 6.4
Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4 will soon arrive and players are excitedly anticipating its massive update of new content including Main Scenario Quests, Trials, Dungeons and Savage Raids – yet players on North American servers could lose some precious playtime due to scheduled maintenance scheduled on May 9.
North American Data Centers will go offline for maintenance beginning at 12am PDT until 10am PDT, effectively disabling access to game during that period. This follow an upgrade in server hardware implemented during Patch 6.38; though Square Enix did not specify exactly why downtime is necessary – only that maintenance “on infrastructure” will take place during that time.
Other servers such as Japan, Oceania and European Data Centers will remain operational, meaning players with characters on those Data Centers can still play; just not on Aether Crystal Primal Dynamis Dynamis data Centers. Furthermore, this downtime coincides with fan speculation regarding Patch 6.4’s likely release on May 23 as per Live Letter from Producers event on May 12 – which should make for some exciting speculation!
Server maintenance won’t likely have much of an effect on most players; most have probably dealt with much longer periods. Still, for those rushing to prepare themselves for 6.4, 10 hours downtime might throw their plans a curveball; luckily though, players were given ample notice so those working to finish tasks have enough time to plan around it.
As it currently stands, no indication is given as to what this maintenance will add or fix in Final Fantasy XIV. Players speculate this period of downtime might be linked with recent work done to North American servers; however Square Enix has made no statements concerning whether or not such maintenance should have an effect on these adjustments or is simply part of planned maintenance of these servers.
