As Starfield draws nearer its release date, we all face one key question which will determine its ultimate fate: Will Starfield actually run well enough for us all to enjoy its promise or will it remain an underwhelming disappointment? How fast and smoothly does it operate?

Already some gamers have expressed disappointment that Starfield on consoles will remain locked at 30fps; petitions were started recently in attempts to increase this to 60fps; however Todd Howard of Bethesda revealed they do not attempt to reduce features just to increase frame rate as their focus lies more with providing all features they promised for an exceptional gameplay experience and consistency in performance over any short term gains in FPS.

Starfield is an ambitious game with more than 1000 planets to discover and requires significant computing power for optimal gameplay, prompting gamers to wonder whether or not Starfield would work properly on Xbox Series S. In comparison to its more expensive counterpart, Series X, Xbox Series S’ GPU is less powerful and its max resolution stands at 1440p as opposed to 8K (4K rendering for games).

Bethesda studio design director Emil Pagliarulo recently posted to Twitter regarding a playtest of Starfield on Xbox Series S, in response to being publicly asked how its performance and visuals compare. Pagliarulo replied by linking an article citing Howard praising how good Starfield looks on cheaper consoles such as this.

Although that statement from Pagliarulo seems positive, some are concerned by his failure to express an opinion: Neosss1995 noted: “Emil has talked very lightly about Starfield on Series S.” If Cyberpunk didn’t include previews for Series S performance then that should raise alarm; otherwise they refuse to display performance of Series S then that should also cause concern, according to Adonisrambo.

Although your concerns about Starfield might be understandable, Pagliarulo likely adhered to strict regulations not to give too much away about it, hence his linking a public quote as opposed to providing his personal opinion. We hope we’ll gain more clarity regarding Starfield’s performance on Series S devices before its official launch later in 2018.
