As if Star Wars Outlaws could not get more exciting, the creative director of its developers has revealed that they are making an effort to make sure that the game maintains the style and vibe from the original Star Wars films.

The story of the scoundrel Kay Vess was revealed last month. It will be set between The Empire strikes back and Return of the Jedi. In a recent interview, Edge Magazine’s creative director Julian Gerighty said that they “wanted that feeling” from the original three films.

To achieve this goal, developers have included subtle features such as “vignetting” and “film grain”, along with the curve of a larger lens. Devs also made sure that Kay Vess’ technology felt like something from the Original Trilogy.

Gerighty added: “It could even be as small as the design of Kay binoculars.” There’s an almost timeless shape language that was inspired by the 80s and 70s.

Anyone else going back to the gameplay reveal in order to try and spot these nuances? Outlaws could be the Star Wars fan’s dream come true if Ubisoft can pull it off.

None of The Outlaws enormous planets are procedurally generated. Each one is handcrafted. We don’t yet know the number of worlds that will appear in the game. However, the fans have spotted at least four to five in trailers.

Star Wars Outlaws will be released in 2024.
