Sony is once again blessing us with hundreds of games that we will never be able to play in our lives.

As of the 18th of July, there are more than 460 games available to play through PlayStation Plus ‘Extra and Premium Tier game libraries’. This is amazing considering a large number of these titles are excellent. Since Sony’s service overhauled last year, we’ve seen some really top-notch games, such as Dragon Quest XI S : Echoes of an Elusive Age, Horizon Forbidden West, and NEO : The World ends with you.

It was announced in Sony’s PS Plus Premium and Extra announcement last week that a particularly good RPG will be joining the Extra tier. While I am sure that most people have already heard about it, it would feel wrong not to recommend it. Toby Fox’s , Undertale is the game I am referring to.

undertale is, if you’re unfamiliar with it, a top down independent game inspired by earthbound. You play as a child that falls in the Underground, a place full of monsters. You can choose how you want to approach the quest to return home. You can choose to take the time you need to get acquainted with each unique monster, or follow the more ‘traditional RPG’ route of defeating everyone. No matter what you choose, there will be a variety of endings and consequences. The entire story , and game, is completely different depending on how you play the game. It’s worth it to try it out more than once.

The dialogue and sense humour of undertale are what really make the game shine. It is a truly unique blend of strange, chaotic and humorous (not to say with plenty of puns) video game writing. The characters are all so unique and unforgettable – even eight years after the release of the game, I can still recall the personalities and names of the random NPCs. Love you, Burgerpants.

Undertalehas one of the best-composed soundtracks ever created in video games. I’ll stand behind this forever. There are so many gems in Undertale that I can’t list them all. Everyone has heard of ‘Megalovania,’ and with good reason. Toby Fox’s solo composition of the entire soundtrack is amazing. From the upbeat ‘Spider Dance,’ ‘Death by Glamour and the emotionally charged ‘Home and Fallen Down.’

It’s hard to say what makes undertale so special. I don’t know if its the characters that are charming, the storyline, the soundtrack, or a combination of them all. But it has the ability to connect and stay with players for a lifetime. It’s hard to finish this game without feeling . It’s not a long game, but it has the ability to make you both laugh and cry.

Please play undertale if you haven’t already. Why not play it again, even if your already played? This is a game you need to experience first hand and unspoiled. But even if it’s something that you already know, the charm never goes away. It’s a very special game, don’t let it pass you by.
