An attempted free PlayStation 5 giveaway ends up leading to violence and injuries.
Do we love free giveaways? Absolutely, as long as they remain within reason (you wouldn’t give away Ride to Hell: Retribution without proper consideration!). For instance, don’t pass out copies without asking beforehand (Google it!).
However, even with its promise of free PlayStation 5 consoles in giveaways that result in violence and injuries being suffered by many contestants is likely not an ideal situation, no matter how eager an individual might be to receive one of this latest video game consoles.
According to aa.com, this giveaway event was purportedly organised by YouTuber and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat – who boasts four million YouTube subscribers and six million Twitch stream followers respectively – who was charged with inciting riot and unlawful assembly for her attempts at organizing a PlayStation 5 giveaway this past weekend in New York City that resulted in chaos worthy of any beehive!
On Friday 4 August 2023, thousands of New Yorkers descended upon Union Square hoping to snag Sony’s latest console free. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go according to plan; consequently the public relations company that helped organise it on behalf of Kai Cenat issued an official apology statement as to its poor organisation of this event.
“We are deeply dismayed at the outbreak of disorderly conduct which affected innocent individuals and businesses and do not condone this behavior,” read the statement from NIOSH.
Reports state that at least “several hundred” hopefuls had gathered at Union Square. Unfortunately, when chaos ensued and barricades were torn down and objects thrown by unruly attendees, barricades were torn down allegedly and several attendees injured with at least seven injured and 66 arrests being made as a result of these disturbances.
PlayStation Plus subscribers have taken part in an unprecedented giveaway: an experience considered one of the greatest ever made can now be experienced on PS5. Though not free, its reduction has led to massive surges in sales growth for the PS5.
