If you missed today’s Pokemon Presents broadcast, chances are good you missed two new Pokemon games that are coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online.

At the Pokemon presentation, much was discussed; such as an in-depth look at Detective Pikachu Returns which releases later this year; DLC news for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet; as well as updates for side projects such as Pokemon Sleep or Pokemon Unite etc. However, one announcement revealed an impressive legacy title has returned for Nintendo Switch!

Sorry, the video player could not load. (Error Code: 100001). That is right; Pokemon Stadium 2 is now available to those with valid Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Additionally, Game Boy-related Trading Card Game support will also be made available.

As this game requires Nintendo 64 games to operate properly, players will require purchasing the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack which contains N64 titles as well as Game Boy Advance games plus extra bonuses for certain online Switch titles.

As with its predecessor, Pokemon Stadium 2 enables fans to experience some of their favourite pocket monsters from Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver battle it out against each other in 3D battles, both head-on and against one another.

Players will take part in standard battles against AI or friends, compete for Gym Leader title and complete various Gym leader challenges as well as participate in minigames to extend the fun!

While the original Nintendo 64 release allowed access to Game Boy games with an adaptor, and therefore supported those titles as well, its Switch counterpart unfortunately lacks this compatibility – much to fans’ displeasure.

Nintendo Switch Online currently only includes classic Pokemon games from Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance consoles in its library of titles; none have yet made an appearance there either! Furthermore, Pokemon Home doesn’t support either Pokemon Stadium game; you are left renting them instead of owning your own!

At any rate, it’s wonderful to see more classic titles being brought onto the service – and surely soon enough we will also see Game Boy RPGs joining them?

Pokemon Stadium 2 can now be enjoyed with an active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership.
