PlayStation’s new console twice as powerful as PS5, new specs suggest

PlayStation’s new console twice as powerful as PS5, new specs suggest

The rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro will apparently be twice as powerful as the base PS5, according to leaked specs.

Despite the overwhelming success of the PlayStation 5 console, Sony is reportedly planning two mid-gen revisions for fans to consider.

A PlayStation 5 Slim is supposedly on the way, which is ironic because first-looks have determined it’s not slim by any means, it’s still a very chonky boy. While its size won’t be that different to the base model, its dimensions will apparently be slightly different, meaning it might fit in everyone’s setups easier than the skyscraper design of the PS5.

As for the PS5 Pro, we’re yet to catch a glimpse of the new powerhouse console, but the specs suggest it’ll be a monster of a system that well-exceeds the base model.

The leaked specifications claim it’ll feature a custom APU with a Zen 4 CPU and an RDNA 3/3.5 iGPU, 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM and an unspecified amount of DDR5 memory as well as higher clock frequencies for both the CPU and the iGPU.

If all of that was inconceivable tech babble, just know that it’s looking good if you’re after a more powerful console.

That’s not the only console Sony has recently cooked up either, the company recently unveiled the PlayStation Portal, a handheld device that’ll let players stream games from their PS5 directly to the device, allowing them to play a large number of games anywhere in their house.

Xbox also reportedly have a console revision on the horizon, an Xbox Series X with no disc drive. The Xbox Series S is Microsoft’s all-digital console at the moment, at a cheaper price point and with less power than the Series X. The remodelled Series X likely aims to retain its horsepower at a cheaper price by becoming a digital console.

In other news, if you’ve been on the fence about upgrading to a PS5, or are tempted by the extensive library of exclusive games, you can bag a PlayStation 5 console at a huge discounted price.

PlayStation is yet to officially unveil any new consoles, though with the end of the year quickly approaching, we may see something in the next few months, otherwise, it’ll be a release set for next year.
