The Fallout series collides with The Last Of Us in open-world zombie horror
We’re getting closer to the point at which nearly all shooters become extraction shooters. After the huge success of Escape From Tarkov, The genre is rapidly expanding.
This is what we’ve got on the table, along with Nakwon: Last Paradise The game is “a 3rd person view Zombie Apocalypse Stealth Survival game. Experience a new form of ‘Post-Apocalypse Life’ that you’ve never seen before.” This is an abundance of buzzwords.
The description for Nakwon further states “Explore Extraction Survival and gather resources from the PvPvE city, where Zombies and Survivors coexist to survive in this new societal structure.” Unfortunately, this blurb was likely made prior to when Modern Warfare 3 brought together its popular Zombies mode and their DMZ extraction game, which means this could not be as innovative as they once believed.
The release date isn’t listed on the Steam page for Nakwon which means there’s plenty of an opportunity to look at what MWZ has been doing, and then switch features to their game. Naturally, there are striking differences, primarily in terms of tone. However, there are also differences in terms of setting, since Nakwon is set in Korea.
The post-apocalyptic universe has plenty of dangers however, you’ll be mostly fighting zombies based on the look of this trailer. There’s a hint from The Last of Us here with the covert scenes and techniques used to deter and attract zombies. According to the creators, a single shot could bring in “all nearby zombies” so the idea of firing all guns at once is an error.
There’s a lot of room in the market for Nakwon amid the many other extraction shooters which have launched recently or are in development from such companies as Bungie in their next release, Marathon.
More details are expected to be released in the near future, however, Nakwon will be an excellent new addition to the genre of extraction.
