Sony just confirmed a much earlier PS5 Pro launch date than initially projected.

2024 is likely to witness much speculation regarding Sony’s plans for unveiling its upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro model, long rumored for launch.

Tom Henderson from InsiderGaming recently mentioned that this console may be announced at CES next week; speculation suggests this might happen.

At this stage, who knows? Sony has kept many details close to its chest; the only rumors we hear stem from AMD announcements in late 2023. According to Henderson, he doesn’t expect an announcement within 9-10 months from release if that remains their timeline – therefore, I prefer believing a late Q3 announcement as likely.”

He raises an important point. By making their announcement too early in the year, many consumers would wait and pick up the console ahead of the festive season. By waiting until Q3, there would only be a short gap between news of an upgraded console being made available and the busy buying season beginning – encouraging some older models to sell at reduced costs while at the same time giving others time to find and purchase discounted older versions as part of Christmas 2024 deals.

Sony is no stranger to introducing Pro models into their console lineup; we saw that with PlayStation 4. It could easily be seen as a precursor for what Sony plans on doing in the future: mid-cycle upgrades. Many believe the tech advancement to be minimal, if any; even if its purpose is improving loading times and compatibility for DLSS service, it will likely sell well.
