Acquisitions make up a significant part of the gaming industry. A developer performing well on its own may be attractive to Xbox or PlayStation to create a studio that will work exclusively for them. Other times, studios might be purchased by large publishers such as Activision Blizzard. CD Projekt recently stated that it is not interested in being sold, despite its issues.

According to VGC, a recent interview with a Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita saw Adam Kicinski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, clarifying that the company isn’t seeking to be purchased. When asked whether the company might be seeking investors or if it might be looking to announce strategic options, he replied that the firm no.

The CEO replied, “We have been saying for years that we will remain independent and don’t plan to be part of any larger entity. We are not also looking for strategic investors.” He adds that there seem to be provisions that would “hinder hostile takeovers” via shares being bought by another company.

CD Projekt has not been stopped from making acquisitions. VGC mentions that it bought two developers in recent months: The Molasses Flood and Digital Scapes. The latter was renamed CD Projekt Red Vancouver. Kicinski tells Rzeczpospolita that it has announced increased activity in the area of mergers and acquisitions. We confirmed this in recent months with two transactions.

“We don’t rule out any future acquisitions of this nature. Our acquisitions are made to help us implement our strategy and strengthen our development teams. We are most concerned about experience and competence. It is also important that the team fits in with the culture of the group.
