Steam: Adventure RPG has suddenly been made free for download and purchase!
An iconic adventure game once delisted on Steam has made an unexpected reappearance as a free download.
There is an abundance of free games for PC gamers available today; it is more rare that an old title that we thought had vanished forever makes a comeback as a free download.
Delisted Games reports that Betrayer was first released for purchase on Steam back in 2014. According to Delisted Games, however, its digital storefront on Valve was delisted sometime between 2020-2021 due to publisher Blackpowder Games remaining silent online and at its Steam community forum since 2015. As no supporter was present to advocate on behalf of this title any longer, its removal has occurred.
As is unfortunately all too frequently the case in digital space, GOG announced today that Betrayer can now be found at its own dedicated GOG store page and for no cost whatsoever!
Official Description for Betrayer: “Betrayer is an immersive first person action adventure game set at the dawn of 17th-century America.
“You set sail from England expecting to join an upstart colony on Virginia’s coast; however, all that lies before you are ghosts and mysteries. What happened here to rob it of color and life? Where have the inhabitants gone?”
“Clue by clue, you must reconstruct what befell this doomed settlement and discover a solution. However, beware corrupt Conquistadors and lurking shadows as you traverse an expansive wilderness in search of survivors from this tragic story of colony history and search.”
Though Betrayer may have not caused much uproar when it went offline two years ago (it’s an obscure game), I find it heartening that its return has given it another opportunity at life – hopefully with new players finding it and spreading its influence further than before!
