Limited Run Games has unveiled an official port of Tomba! for both PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles.

Recent live-streams revealed the news: the PlayStation 1-era platformer will make its new-gen debut sometime soon on PS4/5; no official date or time has yet been set for its arrival on this system.

Tomba! is a classic platform-adventure game from 1997 for PlayStation 1. Set against an offbeat world where Tomba, an orphan, must retrieve his grandfather’s bracelet that was stolen by an evil race of pigs (anoften seen as typical 1990s villains in video game protagonists), it follows Tomba on an adventure across three worlds in search of it back.

After Tomba!’s incredible reception on PlayStation 1, Sony decided to develop Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return for release as an additional sequel on that platform.

Re-releasing it with Carbon Engine should remain true to its initial release over 10 years ago with one exception; Fujita Harumi who composed its original score will create an original soundtrack specifically tailored for this version of the game.

Limited Run Games has expressed their excitement regarding this port of Tomba to modern consoles via Carbon Engine with new soundtrack by legendary composer Fujita Harumi. Limited Run Games shared their anticipation as follows. “Limited Run Games and creator Tokuro Fujiwara have joined forces to bring Tomba back home! Together we’re working towards porting it over from modern to classic platforms and new sound tracks by Fujita Harumi will accompany its return.”

Limited Run Games has announced several ports of classic titles like Clocktower and Jurassic Park for modern platforms – and my personal favourite Gex: Trilogy features everyone’s wisecracking gecko!

Tomba! will be made available both digitally and physically via PlayStation Store.
