As an avid horror game fan, I enjoy trying all types of horror titles – new or not. As one such upcoming horror game boasts The Last of Us meets Telltale’s The Walking Dead vibes, my fellow horror enthusiasts and I are delighted by its promise.

Plenty of survival horrors have taken inspiration from iconic franchises like The Last of Us, and it is hard to disagree with that decision. Building upon The Last of Us’ tense atmosphere has seen ambitious open-world horrors emerge out of nowhere to force us into playing them.

But One Way Home, an Unreal Engine 5 horror title developed with Unreal Engine 5, is giving us chills. Some may say it has chill factor… Eschewing my terrible puns for now, this game embraces youth by adopting a 12-year-old main protagonist; similar to Clementine as she navigates her harsh world environment.

Few can forget how The Walking Dead ended; leaving us reeling with emotion as our tears flowed freely and redness filled our eyes from crying so hard. While painful, it was an incredible experience; unfortunately it remains to be seen whether One Way Home can produce such an immersive journey, though its gameplay demo does give us hope that its immersiveness could do exactly the same thing.

With The Walking Dead series being an overwhelming disappointment and The Last of Us Remastered being announced mere months ago, now is more important than ever that we find a reliable horror franchise to keep up our gamer adrenalin.

Still, while horror games are badly needed in our lives, not everyone who’s seen One Way Home thus far is impressed with its gameplay – although that comes with indie titles being developed independently. Still, I remain hopeful for its launch date and am optimistic about learning more about its development as time progresses.
