PlayStation free download criticized as unsuitable by critics unable to be pleased
Free gifts are always appreciated, especially those related to an activity we find immensely soothing: playing video games!
Sony recently began hosting their Season of Play promotion for PS5 and PS4 users, featuring free multiplayer windows, new PS Stars campaigns, competitions, and much more.
Sony recently unveiled their free avatars as an incentive for gamers, yet some gamers were disappointed to learn of Sony’s offer of PS Avatars as profile pictures inspired by various video games to use on our PlayStation profiles on consoles. Sony are giving out five avatars in total from Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Disco Elysium Assassin’s Creed II Tom Clancy Rainbow Six Siege until 5 January 2024; no subscription to PS Plus required either to claim them!
As disappointing as offering free avatars may be, at least it’s something we never before had access to and something new we won’t soon lose access to again. Furthermore, I wouldn’t expect anything similar happening as part of Season of Play promotion, even if that would have been incredible!
Pity that PlayStation 5 still doesn’t feature dynamic themes – something first introduced with PS3 and carried over into PS4. At least during this Season of Play promotion would have been an opportunity to release these dynamic themes; unfortunately that did not come about.
Some fans, however, haven’t held back from voicing their displeasure with the avatar freebies. One Twitter user lamented: “These look awful lmao; the PS Plus logo in the background really ruins it as well!” another commented. Thankfully though there were enough grateful gamers that these freebies weren’t ignored altogether and many downloaded and installed them for future use despite any initial unease they might cause; many download them and won’t use them at all – freebie and all.
