Rockstar Games was recently left reeling following the leakage of GTA V’s source code online, providing insight into cancelled projects planned or otherwise scheduled to come online soon after its debut.

Grand Theft Auto fans must have found these leaks heartbreaking, as GTA V had planned out entire games’ worth of DLC before opting instead for GTA Online.

Planned expansion content included an immersive zombie apocalypse within Los Santos similar to Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare DLC; plans were put forth for an alien invasion and story expansion featuring Michael Franklin and Trevor as protagonists.

GTA VI will include map expansions that transport players back to iconic GTA locales like Liberty City from GTA IV or Vice City from Miami; both were planned as map updates but are returning in GTA 6 instead.

The content was reduced for GTA Online updates that provided new stuff at higher costs than previously – likely an attempt at prompting players into purchasing Shark Cards with real cash.

Fans were stunned to learn of GTA V’s cancellation, yet many remain excited for its successor with its record-setting teaser trailer. Unfortunately, many were also disillusioned at its loss of potential and opportunity.

“GTA V would’ve benefitted immensely from an Undead Nightmare mode!” one fan responded to cancellation announcements via Reddit post.

People were outraged over how all their efforts had been diverted towards supporting online play after single-player support had fallen by the wayside. “They should’ve employed additional staffers so both modes would still receive support after it all blew up!”

One commenter pointed out: “All this content that got shelved here would have made an impressive showcase compared to GTA Online’s content farm.

One fan lashed out, saying they hold GTA V DLC developers responsible.

Worse yet, GTA VI may follow in this vein and will likely sacrifice single-player content in favour of microtransactions in its online mode.
